In the spirit of Passover—a time-honored celebration of liberation in Jewish tradition—Michigan Hillel sought to provide a memorable and meaningful gift to students engaging in seders, the ritual feasts that are central to the holiday's observance. Aiming to enhance the sense of festivity and community, I was tasked to create an original puzzle that would be a feature item within a curated gift bag, thoughtfully distributed to a multitude of students on campus.

The challenge was to craft a puzzle that embodied the elegance and ritual importance of the Seder plate, a key element in the Passover ceremony that bears the symbolic foods of the occasion. My artistic endeavor led to the creation of a hand-illustrated puzzle, ensuring that each piece conveyed the beauty and significance inherent in the tradition.

Embracing the meticulous nature of hand-drawn art, I applied my skills to depict floral patterns that gracefully intertwined with the symbolic elements of Passover. This artistic approach was deliberate, chosen to mirror the intricacy and reverence of the highly decorated Seder plates prominent during the celebration. The addition of text and icons, carefully integrated within the hand-drawn florals, served to narrate the Passover story and its symbols through this interactive medium.

 

The result was a visually enchanting and educational puzzle that provided an immersive experience for students. Not only did it serve as a delightful gift, but its intricate design also functioned as a conversation starter and learning tool about the multifaceted nature of Passover.
